Locally owned and operated

Nelson Tree Specialists was established in 2007 and is owned and operated by Richard Walsh – a fully qualified arborist with over 18 years of experience gained both in New Zealand and the UK.

Our experienced, qualified arborists work all over the Tasman region – across Nelson, Atawhai, Stoke, Richmond, Kaiteriteri and as far as Golden Bay to Lake Rotoiti.

We provide a full suite of arboricultural services and solutions, from large established heritage trees to smaller fruit tree pruning.

Our personalised service means our clients come to us through repeat business and personal recommendation. They stay with us because they can rely on an excellent service every time; delivered with a personal touch.

We are health and safety compliant approved contractors to both the Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council and are proud members of the New Zealand Arboricultural Association.

Health & Safety Plan
Tree work is inherently dangerous; we deal with heavy machinery and chainsaws while working at heights.  So it is extremely important to us that every possible step is taken to keep our team safe.  We have a detailed and up-to-date Health and Safety plan to effectively manage any risks and we carry out regular Health and Safety meetings and training sessions with our staff.

Our daily tool box meetings identify the hazards for each job and we complete Hazard Identification forms in accordance with Health and Safety plan. Our team have the appropriate protective clothing, modern climbing equipment and our arborists are fully trained in aerial rescue techniques.

Further information on our Health and Safety Plan is available on request.

We attend the NZAA conferences every year, Richard is a registered assessor for the NZHITO and a recent judge at the regional climbing competition
