‘Giant gum chewed up by chainsaws’

A 30-metre tall eucalyptus tree is being removed so it does not crash down on to the highway at Atawhai.

Nelson Tree Specialists has a team of five working with a crane over two days to take it down.

Owner Richard Walsh said the NZ Transport Agency which is responsible for the highway wanted the gum tree down for safety reasons…
